"Training Log" 02/01/2015-02/07/2015: HMBA social ride

This week consisted of my normal bike commute of 48 miles.  We had a weather system that came through early in the week which dropped some snow and the temps to around 5 degrees.  My 5am commutes were in the single digits to low teens all week.

Due to a sore back I decided not to do any running this week, hopefully next week I'll be able to put a couple miles by feet.  Some friends are signed up for the Indy Mini Marathon in May so that will be a consideration for me...

Saturday the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association (HMBA), had a casual ride that I participated in.  It was a 50deg ride through downtown Indy, perfect day for a bike ride along with a couple beer stops.

"Training Log" 01/04-01/10

Nothing major to report this week.  All bike riding was commuting to work.  I did put my studded tires on during the previous weekend because of the expected snow storm this week, which turned out being just two inches.  It was still difficult to ride on the snowy roads that were rutted by cars.

This week I also had the opportunity to ride in 3deg temps, which is about as cold as its going to get in Indy so it was nice to get it out of the way early in the year.

Also got my first run of the year in.

By bike:   36 miles
By feet:    5 miles

"Training Log" 12/29/2014-01/3/2015

Short work week because of the holidays and since the majority of my biking is work commuting, if not for the Polar Bear Pedal I'd only have 12 miles this week.

This was the 4th annual Polar Bear Pedal, and the first year it wasn't cold and snowy.  Instead we had 38deg temps and constant rain.  I would rather ride in 10deg snow than 30deg rain, but the ride was fun and its good to show support for Indy's bike culture.

Indiana Randonneurs 200k

This was Indiana Randonneurs first Brevet.  At just over 200k and a finishing time cut-off of 13-1/2 hours, Indianpolis-Story-Indianapolis had a mix of just about everything.  Some nice urban riding accompanied with beautiful hilly southern Indiana rural riding.

I only live 13 miles from the start of the event at Major Taylor Velodrome so I decided to ride to it.  Some photos of Indianapolis at sunrise:

At the halfway point at the Story Inn in Story Indiana.  A nice break to get our card stamped, re-fill water bottles, and some nourishment.

Pretty cool place.  I've been around the Inn, but never visited.

Shot of the pub.

Check out the mountains in the background.

The after ride shot.  Total mileage was 140 for the day.  The end of July Indiana Randonneurs is hosting the 300k with a time cut off of 20 hours.  Hopefully everything will work out and I'll be able to participate.
